Popular favourites and new compositions in the group’s effortless and sophisticated style
The members of the ensemble: Patrick Dunachie, Timothy Wayne-Wright – countertenor, Julian Gregory – tenor, Christopher Bruerton, Christopher Gabbitas – baritone, Jonathan Howard – bass
The ensemble, which celebrates its 50th anniversary, made musical history with not only Renaissance madrigals and virtuosic arrangements, but also by the inspiring manner in which they made contemporary music accessible for audiences. Following György Ligeti and András Szőllősy, now Levente Gyöngyösi has composed a new piece for them, the world premiere of which will be at CAFe Budapest.
The programme includes several of the new works the group has commissioned for its round anniversary, among them Bob Chilcott’s piece. Few could be more familiar with “The King’s Singers feeling” than the British composer, who sang tenor in the ensemble between 1985–1997.
One of the hotly anticipated new works to be sung at CAFe Budapest is by Toby Hession, a 21-year-old conductor, pianist, and composer. A vastly versatile talent, he is considered one of the greatest promises of composing in Britain.
